Honoring President Jimmy Carter's
Legacy in Peachtree City

This Presidents’ Day, we honor the legacy of Jimmy Carter.

In 1995, former Mayor Bob Lenox presented President Carter with a tool belt. The belt had the Peachtree City logo stitched on its side.

Carter returned the belt 24 years later with a personal note that read:

“To Peachtree City, GA, I am returning the tool belt you gave me in 1995. Since then, I have worn it on 35 Habitat work projects, in which we have had 103,000 volunteers and have built or repaired 4,331 homes in 14 countries.”

The relationship between Peachtree City and President Jimmy Carter is cherished and longstanding. Members of the Carter family called our community home for many years. And, in 1995, the former president served as grand marshal for our city’s Independence Day parade.

Our thoughts and prayers are with President Carter and the entire Carter family as he enters hospice care.

Sign up for Citizen Police Academy

How do cops do their job?

The Peachtree City Police Department aims to answer that question at its annual citizens' police academy.

Now in its 21st year, the citizens' police academy teaches residents how crime scenes are processed, how traffic laws are enforced, and how officers take a suspect into custody while protecting themselves and others from harm.

The 10-week course also includes a ride-along with an officer and a tour of the 911 communications center.

Applications for the citizens' police academy are now being accepted. Participants must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.
