The City of Roswell's Water Utility was recently honored with three statewide awards at the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) Spring Conference & Industrial Symposium. They won the Water Treatment Plant of the Year, Top Operator of the Year, and the Gold Award for operations. The awards were recognized by the Roswell Mayor and City Council at their April 25 meeting.

"Your City of Roswell staff are doing such a fantastic job for your City of Roswell Water customers," said Steve Simpson, from GAWP, who presented the awards to the City.

- Plant of the Year Award
Roswell's Water Treatment Plant won the 2022 Water Plant of the Year Award in the 1 million gallons per day (MGD) to 4.99 MGD category for Surface Water plants. This award recognizes Municipal Water Treatment Facilities that have been operated in an outstanding manner (categories based on facility size). This award is given to the best managed, best operated facilities in the state of Georgia. To win this award, not only is the score considered, but all aspects of the facilities, such as safety, maintenance operations, documentation, lab operations, and industrial monitoring. The Roswell Water Utility previously won this award in 2020.

- Top Operator (TopOp) Award
Water Utility employee Corey Bagby won the TopOp Award in Water Distribution for District 3. A TopOp Award is presented to a member from each of the eight districts in each category. A TopOp is presented to a certified operator that has excelled in his/her duties and sets an example for others. Receipt of this award is a high honor and reflects the incredible talent at the Roswell Water Utility.

- Gold/ Platinum Award
Roswell's Water Treatment Plant won the Gold Award this year. The Gold/Platinum Awards recognize water facilities that have had no permit violations during the preceding calendar year. Only GAWP Corporate and Utility members are eligible for these awards. Since 2016, this is the fifth time the Roswell Water Utility has won the Gold Award.

"We have some incredible, hardworking people who work in our water utility," said Sharon Izzo, Director of Environmental/Public Works. "They are here in the middle of the night when there's a break, they are here on a Sunday afternoon fixing leaks and helping residents. They have earned these awards."
