Tybee Island Fire Rescue (TIFR), over the last 6 months, has worked diligently to become a licensed Emergency Medical Service (EMS) in the State of Georgia. They earned the license by having a medical doctor that oversees the program, proper medical equipment, and properly trained personnel. The Department of Health, Region 9 EMS inspected all aspects of the program and granted the license July 12.

The license issued by the state to the Fire Department is an Emergency Medical Responder license, which allows the department to carry lifesaving drugs, and intervene during medical emergencies until arrival of a Transport Unit.

TIFR will begin operating an advanced life support quick response vehicle by August to assist further in the care of Tybee Island’s citizens and visitors.

"TIFR would like to say a thank you to City Council, and the City Manager for supporting this endeavor," said Fire Chief Jeremy Kendrick.  "We will always strive to bring great service to the City of Tybee Island."
