Message from the Chief

Welcome to The Second Alarm, the Valdosta Fire Department's Monthly Newsletter. The objective of this newsletter is to communicate information to our members and the citizens we serve. Communications in any organization are pivotal to its success. Though this newsletter does not replace the day to day communication within our organization, we hope this newsletter will aid in sharing valuable information about our department to you. This is YOUR department! We continue to provide you service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. Our doors are open at the stations. Please stop in at your neighborhood station and say hi.

We're proud of our State Fire Marshal & Sprinkler Association's calendar contest winners, who were recognized at their schools by the Valdosta Fire Department and Fallon Brown, Fire and Life Safety Educator from the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.

We presented the winners with prizes and their fellow classmates got to tour a fire engine! The winners are:

- Sallas Mahone Elementary School:

Krisha Patel: 3rd runner up for the October month.

Prince Patel: 3rd runner up for the February month

- Pinevale Elementary School

Janelle Jones: 2nd Runner up for the January month

We love being the best we can be! Our firefighters understand the importance of quick response times and aggressive tactics in saving lives and property. Vertical ventilation was on the agenda this month. Cutting vent holes in roofs quickly improves interior conditions for firefighters and potential patients, creating a flow path for smoke, heat, and toxic gases to escape.

Did you know recycling your aluminum cans assist burn survivors?

Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation partners with the fire service and burn care community to provide fire safety and prevention education, support medical facilities, and assist burn survivors in their recovery. Taking a moment to drop your cans in one of our three locations will help us help the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.

We always enjoy serving our community! We had a blast inspiring young minds at the Sallas Mahone Elementary School’s career fair, and we were grateful for the invitation.

We love every opportunity we have to interact with our community! Station 4 had the honor of judging St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church’s chili contest.

We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with NCNW for the C.H.U.G.G.S. (Coats, Hats/Hoods, Undies, Gloves, Socks & Sweaters) Project. Donated items were delivered to Hudson Dockett by station 5.
