Message from the Chief

Welcome to The Second Alarm, the Valdosta Fire Department's Monthly Newsletter. The objective of this newsletter is to communicate information to our members and the citizens we serve. Communications in any organization are pivotal to its success. Though this newsletter does not replace the day to day communication within our organization, we hope this newsletter will aid in sharing valuable information about our department to you. This is YOUR department! We continue to provide you service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. Our doors are open at the stations. Please stop in at your neighborhood station and say hi.

Pick your team!
We and the VPD are hosting our Annual Battle of the Badges Community Blood Drive.

We invite you to respond to the call and give blood at this life-saving event. When you arrive, city employees will ask which team you support for the competition; team firefighters or team police.

Come save lives and receive a FREE Battle of the Badges T-shirt!

The recruits were learning and burning again! ?
Firefighters may be called upon to handle emergencies involving pressurized containers. This training provides recruits with a realistic exercise handling fires involving simulated pressure containers in a controlled environment. Proper line placement with adequate water allows firefighters to approach burning containers to eliminate the fuel source while preventing a Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion (BLEVE).

It's time to register for the 9/11 Memorial Run

We enjoyed the Back to School Community Block Party!!!

Our firefighters chowed down at the rib eating contest at Texas Roadhouse! Firefighter Hand and Sgt Johnson beat out Lieutenant Chastain and Sgt Williams.
