DeKalb County Public Library Celebrates Back History Month

Throughout February, the library will showcase African American performances, visual arts, and culture to celebrate Black History Month. More than 30 programs and activities will feature musicians, performers, artists, authors, and more, along with crafts, films, virtual programs, and educational sessions for people of all ages.

All DeKalb County Public Library branches will be closed Monday, February 20 for Presidents' Day.

African Beats: Titilayo Dance Company

Celebrate West African culture and heritage through the rhythmic performance of drums, songs, stories, and dance on Saturday, February 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown Library. Find more information here.

Breaking Ground - A Show About Breaking Through Barriers

Author, musician, performer, and storyteller Jerry G. White (A Performance Method) brings history to life with an interactive performance featuring theater, music, percussion, and singing. Attendees will learn about five African American men who had to break through barriers to achieve greatness. Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Northlake-Barbara Loar Library. Seating is limited. New Documentary Feature Film: Bo Legs: Marvin Arrington, Sr., An Atlanta Story

DeKalb County Public Library, in partnership with DeKalb County District 3 Commissioner Larry Johnson, will present a screening of Bo Legs: Marvin Arrington, Sr., An Atlanta Story. Arrington is one of Atlanta’s most significant political leaders, yet one of its least recognized. Lunch will be served. The film will be shown at South DeKalb Senior Center (1931 Candler Rd., Decatur, Ga.) on February 25 at 11:00 a.m.  Click here to register using DCPL's events calendar.

Art Exhibit: The Paintings of Calvin Couther

Experience the work of talented and sought-after artist Calvin Couther. His watercolor and acrylic paintings reflect a part of the African American experience from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s. On display through the end of February at Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown Library. Read more information here

Black History A-Z Museum and Artifacts

Visit the Black History A-Z Museum featuring artifacts collected over many years by Dr. Joyya Smith and Sandra Smith. Artifacts will be exhibited on Saturday, February 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m at Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown Library. An interactive program begins at 11:00 a.m. Find more information here

Love Your Library
February is Love Your Library month at DCPL!

Beginning February 6, show your love for the library by making a donation in your favorite branch. You may donate cash when you check out books or online by visiting dekalblibraryfoundation.org. After donating, you will receive a heart to display in the library. Donations allow us to offer special programs such as Cricut arts and crafts, sensory play, STEAM programs, yoga, and more.

Sit Down to Get Fit
Join fitness instructor John Lewis to learn how to exercise from the comfort of a chair.

Lewis works with Emory University's Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. The Center develops programs that assist seniors with improving their health. The class starts at noon on Wednesday, February 22 at Chamblee Library. Find more information here.
