DCPL Goes Fine-Free

Beginning Friday, July 1, DCPL joins a growing list of libraries across the nation no longer charging overdue fines. Research conducted by the American Library Association determined fines are a barrier to equitable access and disproportionately affect low-income users, particularly children and families. "At DCPL, we believe eliminating overdue fines will encourage more families to use the library," says Library Director, Alison Weissinger. "Families and children need the resources of the library now more than ever." Going Fine-Free will not mean patrons won't have to bring their materials back to the library. Items will have a due date and materials will need to be returned. Fees will still be incurred for lost or damaged items and Inter-Library Loan items. Additional information can be found online at dekalblibrary.org/fine-free

Library Closed for July 4 Holiday

DeKalb County Public Library will be closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of the Fourth of July.

Summer Reading Book Buddy

DCPL's Summer Reading Challenge is going strong! Young patrons have already read more than 6,000 books! And they sure enjoy reading to the Book Buddies they adopted during the Under the Sea Book Buddy Adoption events. Follow their adventures on social media @dekalblibraryfoundation. Thanks to the DeKalb Library Foundation for supporting these reading adventures!

Kanopy Kids

Kanopy Kids is part of Kanopy, the library’s new streaming video service. Kanopy Kids offers a diverse selection of educational and entertaining content, including movies, TV series, animated storybooks, live action features, and animated favorites. In the Kanopy Kids section, you'll only see content that's appropriate for children ages 2 and up (with a focus on ages 2-8), so kids can browse freely. You can also set up parental controls to ensure children can't view content outside of Kanopy Kids. Popular titles include clips from Sesame Street, the Jim Henson Company and PBS and the animated picture books from Weston Woods and Vooks. To access Kanopy Kids, log in to your Kanopy account, then click Kids in the top-right corner of your homepage. Or, in the Kanopy mobile app, tap More at the bottom of the screen, then Go to Kanopy Kids. You can watch Kanopy Kids on your computer, television, or mobile device with apps available for iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Amazon Fire Tablet. Kanopy Kids provides unlimited plays, so your kids are free to explore enriching, educational and entertaining content. You'll have unlimited access to everything in the Kanopy Kids section. New videos are added each month.
