Fulton County Commission, District 3 News - November 4, 2022
From: Fulton County Government

Friends -
While most of the actions taken at this week's Board of Commissioners meeting were routine contract matters, one action was tremendously important to all taxpayers in Fulton County. The Board of Commissioners reached an agreement with Fulton County's 15 cities regarding the distribution of Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) revenues over the next decade. The LOST is a 1% countywide sales tax to be shared among the county and its cities, with visitors and other non-residents helping to share the costs of local government through their purchases while in the county. The law requires the distribution to be re-negotiated every ten years.
The county's portion of the LOST will increase gradually over the next decade from the current share of 4.98%, providing a step forward in addressing the county's 1.1Million citizens' needs in public health, public safety and other services areas. As a former city councilmember, I am pleased that the agreement anticipates, with projected growth in the LOST revenues, that none of the cities will see a decrease in LOST revenues over the next decade.
Since I have been serving on the Commission, we have enjoyed a growing positive relationship with the cities, and I look forward to resuming that cooperative relationship now that this important task has been accomplished.
Stay well and safe, and remember to vote!
