Fulton County Commission District 3 News - October 7, 2022

From: Fulton County Government
October 9, 2022

Friends,

On Wednesday of this week, the Board of Commissioners (BOC) convened for their first meeting in October. Starting with this meeting, the County Manager is shifting his COVID response report to a more general Operational Response report. Please take a moment to review it when you have a moment. In addition, we received a briefing from MARTA Interim CEO Collie Greenwood. His presentation is attached HERE.

As you probably know, Fulton County and its 15 cities are currently negotiating how they will share the revenue from the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) over the next ten years. This process is required by state law to take place every decade. I am hopeful that we will reach an agreement on LOST during mediation today, Friday, October 7.

Personally, I am supportive of a LOST distribution which does not take away money from the cities, but rather allows the cities and the county to share in the estimated 3% annual growth over the next ten years. The county is facing rising costs, most notably related to public health and public safety, and an increase in LOST share could help to prevent an increase in the county's millage rate, affecting all county residents. At the same time, I realize that the cities face equally pressing costs, and I truly hope that we can reach a resolution which will have minimal impact on the taxpayers.

Please see below for more information on how you can vote in the upcoming general election. Make a plan to vote now, whether you do so by absentee voting, early voting, or on Election Day.

Be well,
- Lee
