Fulton County Commission : Early Voting and Transformational Projects in Fulton County

October 22, 2022

Friends -

It has been a busy week.  As most know, I serve as the County's representative on the Atlanta BeltLine board. We have a seat because the tax allocation district (TAD) that provides substantial property tax dollars to the BeltLine uses County revenues in addition to Atlanta Board of Education and City of Atlanta revenues. We had a ribbon cutting Tuesday for the recently completed connection of the Westside Trail and the Westside Trail Connector. We celebrated that within the next 24 months, 80% of the 22 mile trail will be completed or under construction.

We had our usual Board of Commissioners meeting Wednesday with mostly routine business on the agenda. But prior to the meeting, we honored environmental projects within each district. I was extremely proud that my nominee and awardee was the Temple, the iconic and historic midtown congregation founded in 1867. Its Rothschild Social Justice Institute was created in 2017 to formalize the congregation's longtime advocacy for positive change on broad societal issues of our time, and its Environmental Justice group was honored for its achievements with respect to sustainability and education on environmental issues.

On Thursday, as the County's representative on Invest Atlanta's board, I was pleased to vote for the exciting purchase by the City of the 41 story office building at 2 Peachtree Street, and the adjacent 14 Marietta Street building. These properties will be converted to affordable housing in the heart of downtown's Five Points. More to come on that in the coming days and months. Congratulations to Mayor Dickens and Governor Kemp on working together for a terrific project.

Stay well and safe,

- Lee

Earlier this week, I joined Atlanta leaders, including Mayor Andre Dickens, for a ribbon cutting at the Beltline Westside Trail. The Beltline grows ever closer to completion in large part due to essential TAD funding from Fulton County and its partners.

Congratulations to my friends at The Temple! It was my honor to present Rabbi Lydia Medwin and her team with a sustainability award from The Fulton County Citizens Commission on the Environment.

The Atlanta Airport Chamber of Commerce hosted their Annual Meeting in District 3, at the High Museum. It's always a pleasure to spend time with  Moderator Chris Tomlinson, Managing Director at Deloitte and Keynote Speaker Anna Roach, Executive Director and CEO of the Atlanta Regional Commission.
