Middle Georgia Regional Library News - September 7, 2023

September 8, 2023

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when we join the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning. Through access to technology, media resources, and educational programs, a library card gives the tools to succeed in life and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions.

Here at MGRL, you’ll find a variety of resources and activities, including mobile printing options, virtual storytime, Chromebook checkouts, park passes, and much more. Of course, you already know how valuable a library card is. Consider encouraging anyone you know who would benefit from having a library card to stop by their local library and sign up today!

Need to borrow a laptop or launchpad?

We have Chromebooks for checkout! The Georgia Public Library Service has provided Chromebooks to our library system. To check one out, visit in person or search the online catalog.

Launchpads are available for checkout at the library. They are pre-loaded with applications and games that encourage language and literacy development.
This project was assisted through a grant from the Georgia Public Library Service with federal pandemic funding from the State of Georgia Governor’s Office.

In the eLibrary section of our website, you can access apps and online databases from your personal devices. Research, learn, and stream all you'd like. All you need is your library card.

Your student will be able to handle anything school throws their way with access to over 100 databases, thousands of periodicals, and scholarly journals.

Over 10,000 journal titles are provided in full text. Other resources include encyclopedias, business directories, and government publications.

All you need is your library card.

It's not always easy for our youth to get library cards. While we're celebrating Library Card Sign Up Month and the benefits of having a library card, we want to give a friendly reminder that the PLAY Card Program extends those same benefits to our public school students to help support their success.

Your public school student can borrow materials from the library using their lunch number!

The Pines Library Access for Youth (PLAY) Card Program is available to public students in Baldwin, Bibb, Jones, Macon, and Twiggs Counties.
It is currently in development in Wilkinson County. Stop by your library and learn more about the PLAY Card!
