Middle Georgia Regional Library News : Spooktacular Times Await You At The Library

October 6, 2022

Fall programming is in full swing and we have enjoyed spending time with everyone visiting our locations across all 7 counties. If you haven't grabbed a copy of the 2022 Autumn Programming Guides, I encourage you to visit your local library and scoop one up.

This guide lists all library programming happening throughout the region through November and the Winter edition will be available soon. We'll let you know when.

Our libraries offer various fun and enriching activities from storytimes, craft sessions, and social hours as well as workshops, classes, and presentations from special guests including bestselling authors and industry-leading community partners.

Lastly, we invite you to celebrate National Friends of the Library week, October 16-22. A great way to celebrate is by joining one of our Friends groups. Our Friends support the library mission through the financial support of library initiatives. Their generosity provides special programming, promotional opportunities, and special collections. Baldwin, Bibb, Jones, Macon, and Wilkinson Counties all have active Friends groups who would enjoy counting you among them. You can learn more about these Friends groups at bibblib.org/friends-of-the-library.

Thanks for spending time in our libraries. We look forward to seeing you.

Friendly Reminder
Our libraries will be CLOSED  on Oct. 21 for Staff Training Day.

Public School students in Macon-Bibb, Jones (beginning Oct. 7), Macon, and Twiggs counties can now access public library materials using their student identification/lunch numbers through the Pines Library Access for Youth (PLAY) card program!

The PLAY card program gives students free access to public library materials and online resources to help them succeed in school.

Students can access computers, printers, and wireless internet as well as attend free library programming including S.T.E.A.M and technology-based workshops, book clubs, game nights, tutoring, and presentations from special guests and community partners.

Learn more about the PLAY card program here.

On Sep. 29 we had the honor of hosting a special dedication ceremony for this beautiful garden bench in memory of Jean Clark Boyd.

Mrs. Boyd served on the Macon-Bibb Library Board and was one of the board members who helped to select the location and advocate for the Charles A. Lanford, M.D. Library. The memorial for Mrs. Boyd was provided by the Liberty UMC Scholarship Committee of which Mrs. Boyd was also a member.

Hey daughters, Marsha and Deborah (pictured above), encourage all who visit Lanford Library to take a moment and sit on this bench and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

The staff in the Genealogical and Historical Room at Washington Memorial Library have joined in on the programming fun!

Join them this month for "Dying to Get In" and learn how to glean information from obituaries, death certificates, and cemetery symbolism while researching your family.

Riverside Library invites you to join them for a special author's visit.

Veteran television news anchor, John Pruitt, speaks about Tell It True, a fictional tale of how the 1964 murder of an African American serviceman in Georgia swept civil rights leaders, journalists, lawmen, politicians, and power brokers into a maelstrom of conflict in a changing South.

The event is free to the public. For more information call the library at 478-757-8900.

Jones County Library is back on Facebook! Be sure to like and follow the new page!

It's that time again! Our Macon County Libraries will be hosting "Halloween in the Park"  on Oct. 31 from 6 PM - 7:30 PM. Wear your costume if you'd like and enjoy a night of games, prizes, and treats!

500 Sumter Street, Oglethorpe, GA 31068

Middle Georgia Regional Library is proud to be recognized as a leader in literacy. Literacy in 21st century Macon reflects our community’s ability to make sense of and shape the world. In addition to our work with print-word literacy, we enhance technological literacy through classes and free public access to computers. Our Business and Nonprofit Center is building financial literacy to empower entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders. We also encourage life skills literacy. Whether we are teaching resume workshops or crochet classes, we are giving members of our community the tools to live informed, engaged lives.

The Macon-Bibb Libraries Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation of Central Georgia was created to endow the future of the Macon-Bibb County libraries and will help us continue our mission to connect all people to the information necessary to improve their lives through excellent services and materials.
