Representative Buddy Carter has secured $2.6 million dollars in congressional earmarks to help reduce severe flooding on the island’s south end after heavy rainfall.

“The City of Tybee needs this funding to address severe flooding, for both the safety of its residents and the economic future of the island,” said Rep. Buddy Carter. “I am proud to represent Tybee Island and to have helped secure this critical funding. I thank Mayor Sessions for her partnership and advocacy.”

Tybee Island Mayor Shirley Sessions said the city is grateful for Rep. Carter’s work on behalf of Tybee in obtaining the funding. “We understand that there is keen competition for these limited funds so this is a great achievement for our city and our residents,” she said. It will greatly improve the quality of life for all who have experienced the flooding.
