September 2022 Issue

Dear SRLS Community,

September brings with it Library Card Sign-Up Month, a perfect opportunity to honor public libraries and the vital community services they offer. Our two big September programming initiatives, Space Explorers and Knowledge Base, wonderfully encapsulate everything we strive for here at SRLS: open access, service excellence, community engagement, and continuous learning. With a wealth of no-cost themed events, special guests, Beanstack activities, and continuing education opportunities, we hope you’ll join us among the stars for a fantastic month at your dynamic destination for discovery: the library!

SRLS Executive Director

Library Card Sign-up Month

September is the month to celebrate public libraries. This year’s honorary chairs, actress/singer Idina Menzel and author/educator Cara Mentzel, are encouraging readers of all ages to find their voice at the library by exploring free programmingaccess to technology, and essential community services. To celebrate at Sequoyah Regional Library System, anyone who applies for a library card, renews an expired account, replaces a lost card, or brings a friend or family member to sign up for their own card at any of our locations during September will be eligible to win a library prize bag! To learn more, visit our Library Card Sign-Up Month webpage.

At Sequoyah Regional Library System, we get by with a little help from our friends… and community! This September, we’re partnering with local restaurants and businesses to provide a discount to anyone who shows their library card. Support your local library, save money, and explore your community! The following businesses and restaurants are participating…

Ellijay Wood Fired Pizza in Ellijay
Emily’s Bar & Restaurant in Ellijay
Fermented – A Wine Boutique in Canton
Green Dragon Sports Tavern in Ellijay
Huff’s Drug Store in Ellijay
Learning Express Toys & Gifts in Woodstock
Murphs Surf in Canton/Woodstock

Sequoyah Regional Library System would like to thank these local organizations for their invaluable support in spreading the word about Library Card Sign-Up Month in September.

Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled

Could someone you know benefit from books in an accessible format?  Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled provides reading materials for those who are blind, have low vision, are physically unable to hold a book, or have a reading disability. Ask library staff for more info. Assistive toolkits are also available to check out and take home using a library card.

Print From Anywhere at Your Library!

Printing your documents at the library has never been easier. Visit the SRLS mobile printing webpage, log in with your library card number and PIN, and upload your documents. Next, simply visit a printing station at any SRLS library to print them out. No logging into a library computer required! Documents can be uploaded from a personal computer or mobile device.

Need Help from the Library? “Ask Us!”

Our libraries have launched a new service called “Ask Us!” Sessions which allow visitors to receive one-on-one help by reserving time (up to 30 minutes per session) with a library staff member in person, by phone, or virtually. Sessions can be reserved by calling your library or by visiting SequoyahRegionalLibrary.org  and clicking “Contact Us”. Our staff can help you learn to use library technology, access e-Library services, learn basic computer skills, and more. Normally librarians help people find books, but this is your chance to “book” a librarian!
