Summer Reading Challenge still going strong! 

It is never too late to sign-up and accept the Challenge!  Entering into week three (3) of our annual Summer Reading Program and still we have so much to offer!   

Not only do our Reading Challenges offer you the chance to win some fantastic prizes (all for simply reading and using your public library), but we have weeks full of activities and programs for all ages to have fun, ignite their curiosity and build community.  Remember: It is never too late to join!

Summer Reading Challenge

May 30 - July 7  

Our Reading Challenge isn't just for kids - we want everyone to uncover the magic of literature!  As is tradition, we are offering a Literary Bingo for our older patrons to play.  Read to create a line or black out the board for a chance to win some excellent prizes, such as a $50 gas card or $50 Sweet & Savory Sisters  gift card.

Beginner Yoga

Wednesdays, 9:45am  

Interesting in starting a yoga practice?  Join us in our weekly Beginner Yoga Class where we focus on breathe and strength while working on balance and flexibility.  We flow through a simple vinyasa sequence that is accessible for those new to yoga.  Yoga supplies available to those without.  Registration is appreciated but not required.

Drive-In Movie

Fri, June 16, 8:30pm 

Experience a miniature drive-in movie screening in the Library’s parking lot! We will be playing a family friendly, just-released feature, THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE, and passing out delicious movie-theater popcorn. 

All ages welcome.  Held in the Library's front parking lot.  Space will be limited.

ESOL Meetup

Saturdays, 10:00am 

Are you or someone you know interested in sharpening their English-speaking skills?  Every week, volunteer native English speakers are available to help out.  Learn in a group or individual setting.  Registration is appreciated, but not required.

FOL Used Book Sale

Tuesdays, 10-5pm  

Our Friends the the Library used book store is open every Tuesday, from 10am to 5pm.  Here, you will find hardbacks, paperbacks, DVDs, magazines, puzzles and more.  All softly used and in good condition.  Nothing over $5.00.  All proceeds are used to help fund library programs and materials.

Summer Reading Challenge

May 30 - July 7  

Help prevent the "summer slide" through this fun Reading Challenge.  We challenge children up to 11 years old to read for ten (10) minutes at a time, five levels adding up to total of 200 minutes.  Completing each level earns children a small prize and a chance to win some stellar grand prizes, too.

Story Time: Toddlers & Tykes

Mon, June 12, 10:30am 

Join us for an hour of stories and fun and give your child a little language nutrition! 

We read-aloud some great books, sing songs and recite rhymes designed to enhance the literacy of your child.  Story Time is followed by a simple, fun art + craft to further spark the magic of reading. 

Intended for ages 2-6 years with their caregivers.

Story Time w/UGA

Wed, June 14, 10:30am  

Representatives from the GA Farm Bureau with be sharing some great books on growing a garden and then wrapping up with a cool garden craft to inspire the inner farmer in us all.

 All supplies provided by the GA Farm Bureau. Please note that supply volume may not be able to accommodate all attendees. 

Intended for ages 4 -11 years with their caregivers.

Programs for Young Adults

Summer Reading Challenge

May 30 -July 7  

This summer, we are offering tweens and young adults a basic challenge: To read ten (10) books in five (5) weeks. Using a Book Punch Card, each card filled up earns the reader a ticket toward winning of the grand prize of their choice.  And, of course, the month of June is packed full of events and activities, too.

Melted Crayon Art

Tues, June 14, 4:00pm  

Join us for an afternoon of creativity as we work with crayons as a medium, but instead of the traditional use, we are melting them. Options to make whatever you like: crayon on canvas, a bookmark, a crayon shaving collage, the options are infinite. 

Intended for ages 12 – 17.

Teen Volunteer Hour

Thurs, June 15, 3:30pm  

In the spirit of creating community and spreading love, we will be offering volunteer credit to teenagers willing to paint a stone for the Library’s own Kindness Rock Garden. 

Sign-up is required for this program. We will be offering one (1) volunteer credit hour to those who participate.

The K-9 Unit within the Thomasville Police Department will be demonstrating what these four-legged officers do to serve and protect their city’s residents. Learn a bit about the training process between dog and human, dog officer’s skill set and more.  All ages welcome.

Spinning Wheel Demonstration

Tues, June 13, 2:00pm

Donna Carruth, from Kromski North America, will be speaking about the history of this 90-year-old company and demonstrating the spinning wheel and weaving loom.  Time permitting, attendees 12 and older are welcome to try their hand at the wheel. 

Food Safety with UGA

Weds, June 14, 2:00pm

UGA Extension agent, Olivia Tumlin, with the Family and Consumer Sciences Department will be teaching attendees the best practices in food preparation and storage. Learn to identify how to “clean, separate, cook and chill” food stuffs while cooking and proper food storage to prevent spoiling.
