Programs for Adults

Library Board Meeting

Mon, June 26, 1:00pm 

The TCPLS Library Board of Trustees will be holding its monthly meeting on Monday, June 26, at 1:00pm.  Held in the Henry Flipper Room and open to public observation and comment.

Tentative Agenda.

FOL Used Book Sale

Tuesdays, 10-5pm  

Our Friends the the Library used book store is open every Tuesday, from 10am to 5pm.  Here, you will find hardbacks, paperbacks, DVDs, magazines, puzzles and more.  All softly used and in good condition.  Nothing over $5.00.  All proceeds are used to help fund library programs and materials.

Reading Challenge

Now - July 7  

Our Reading Challenge isn't just for kids - we want everyone to uncover the magic of literature!  As is tradition, we are offering a Literary Bingo for our older patrons to play.  Read to create a line or black out the board for a chance to win some excellent prizes, such as a $50 gas card or $50 Sweet & Savory Sisters  gift card.

Beginner Yoga

Wednesdays, 9:45am  

Interesting in starting a yoga practice?  Join us in our weekly Beginner Yoga Class where we focus on breathe and strength while working on balance and flexibility.  We flow through a simple vinyasa sequence that is accessible for those new to yoga.  Yoga supplies available to those without.

Arts & Crafts: Kindness Rocks

In the spirit of creating community and spreading love, we will be hosting a rock painting hour to build the Library’s own Kindness Rock Garden.

Kindness rocks are hand-painted smooth stones that radiate bright colors, offer caring words of support and love, or just smile back at those that behold them. Attendees are welcome to keep their rocks, share it with a stranger or set it in our Kindness Rock Garden for others to enjoy, too

LEGO Free Play

Wed, June 28, 10:00am

Calling all kid LEGO masters and first-timers! Our LEGOs are out and waiting for your child to create and build whatever they can imagine.

A great place to meet and mingle with other children interested in 3D creation. We also offer larger LEGO bricks for those who may find the smaller bricks tasty.

Reading Challenge

 

Now - July 7  

Help prevent the "summer slide" through this fun Reading Challenge.  We challenge children up to 11 years old to read for ten (10) minutes at a time, five levels adding up to total of 200 minutes.  Completing each level earns children a small prize and a chance to win some stellar grand prizes, too.

Programs for Young Adults

Reading Challenge

 

Now - July 7   

This summer, we are offering tweens and young adults a basic challenge: To read ten (10) books in five (5) weeks. Using a Book Punch Card, each card filled up earns the reader a ticket toward winning of the grand prize of their choice.  And, of course, the month of June is packed full of events and activities, too.

Crazy 8s Paints

 

Tues, June 27, 4:30pm

Crazy 8's is a fast painting exercise that challenges people to paint eight distinct ideas in eight minutes. Our twist is that after the first minute and painting, you pass your paper to the next person and they innovate off the first idea.

 

Intended for ages 12 - 17

Ice Cream Social

 

Thur, June 29, 4:00pm

Socialize with old friends and new. Make your own ice cream sandwich. Watch a movie. Play a card game. Whatever. Our Teen Dept will be just taking it easy with ice cream.

Ice cream supplied by a generous in-kind donation from Bluebell Ice Creamery.

 

Intended for ages 12 – 17.

Diabetes Prevention w/UGA

Mon, June 26, 3:00pm

Stop in to learn a bit about diabetes from UGA Extension. Olivia Tumlin, Family and Consumer Sciences agent, will be discussing the various ways to prevent diabetes as well as treating both pre- and existing diabetes.  Intended for ages 18+, but all ages are welcome to attend.

 

Pollinators & the Food System w/UGA

Tues, June 27, 3:00pm

Learn a bit about the importance of pollination in the food cycle from UGA Extension. Olivia Tumlin, Family and Consumer Sciences agent, will be discussing the role of pollination in the food cycle.

 

Following the talk, attendees will be able to paint their own flower pot and plant a pollinating plant to take home to assist in the food cycle!  Intended for ages 4 – 11 with their caregivers.
