Murder & Mimosas

Murder and Mimosas is wrapping up the spring season this Saturday, May 27th at 11 AM, with a unique case based on a TV Series, as told by someone who knows the murderer! This is a 21+ program, and images are not suitable for all audiences. Thank you to Donatello’s for catering this program.

Cats on Mats

It’s back! Cats on Mats is today, Friday May 26th, at 7:30PM. Please enter on the side entrance off Library Lane. Be prepared to be overrun by cuteness as you bend, stretch, and relax with yoga instructor Rachel Strom. Please bring someone who is looking for a cat to adopt! Our shelter is currently at capacity and desperate for homes. This is a great time to test drive a kitty buddy before taking it home! We will also be accepting donations for the shelter at this time (food, blankets, kitten milk replacement etc).

Roblox

Do you like to play Roblox? So do we! Join us Tuesday, May 30th from 5–6 PM and we can all play together!

Closed for Memorial Day

The library will be closed Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day.

Manga Club

Read some manga, have some snacks, and nerd out with people that eat, sleep, manga, and repeat! Weebs, otakus, and casual readers welcome! The Manga Club’s next meeting is Thursday, June 1st at 5 PM.

Mornings at the Library

Introducing “Coffee and a Book” our new book club for adults who love to rise early and share their love of books over a cup of coffee. For those who don’t care for coffee, we will also have another beverage option. For the first meeting (Thursday, June 15th at 10 AM), choose your own book and share your thoughts. We will decide as a group if we want to continue with “choose your own book” or if we want to go in another direction. Sign up at the Circulation desk or call us 229-386-7148. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Games from Scratch

This summer the library’s Scratch group will be making a platformer game! No previous experience is necessary — we’ll walk you through it from start to finish. Games from Scratch will meet at 4 PM on Thursdays from June 1st through July 22nd and is appropriate for ages 10 and up. Try to make it every week for the best experience!

Financial Literacy Initiative

Tifton’s Financial Literacy Initiative “strives to better equip a population to make good decisions on credit and better position assets and resources that are effective and productive, resulting in significant personal, household-level, small business and community-wide impact.” The Initiative will be holding events throughout the year.

The next event will be Creating Wealth on Tuesday, June 20th 5:30–7:00 PM at the Leroy Rogers Senior Center in Tifton. The library will be there to provide a storytime for kids, too!

Sewing Program Alterations

Attention Sewers! As part of the 2023 Summer Reading Program, the sewing class is splitting it into two groups: youth (13–17) and adults. Youth sewing will retain the name Sewing Friends-y and meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays in June and July from 4:00–5:45 PM. The adult sewing, now the Library Sew-cial Circle, will meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, also from 4:00–5:45 PM. Registration is required for both classes.

Each class is limited to the number of machines available. The library has 8 machines. If you have a portable machine to bring, please let us know on the pre-registration form: Sewing Friends-y registration or Library Sew-cial Circle Registration.

The youth sewing project is a blue denim bag made from recycled jeans. Precut denim pieces will be provided. Participants will need to provide ½ yard of cotton or cotton blend fabric of their choice for lining. Lining fabric should be brought to the first class on June 7th.

The adult sewing class is moving toward a class project. If you have been attending, bring your individual, in-progress project to finish. On August 9th, The Library Sew-cial Circle will begin a class project. On the pre-registration form, you will see the suggested first sewing projects. Returning members and new members need to indicate their project preference. The project with the highest number of choices will be selected. We will notify participants to let you know which project we will be doing and how much fabric you will need to bring with you to class on August 9th.

Author Visit

Georgia author Rebecca Hagan Lee will be at The Camellia House (1020 College Ave) at 2 PM on Friday, June 9th for an author visit.

About the Author

After arming herself with a degree in fine arts and experience in radio, television, and film, Rebecca Hagan Lee wrote her first novel GOLDEN CHANCES. Since then, she’s published numerous bestselling and award-winning novels and three novellas.

She’s won a Waldenbooks Award, a Georgia Romance Writers Maggie Award, several Romantic Times awards, been nominated for an RWA Rita Award and has been published in nine languages.

She currently lives in Georgia with her husband, her two beloved Quarter Horses, and a miniature schnauzer named after literary icon Harper Lee. Her current “Borrowed Brides’’ series has been an Amazon bestseller since its release.

Table Top Gaming

In the olden times of yore, before digital devices were a twinkle in an inventor’s eye, playing games was a more tactile experience, and “multiplayer” meant more than one person at the table. Board games remain as popular as they ever were, and the library has just the program for teens who enjoy them on Tuesday, June 6th at 5 PM.

STEAM Team

Say goodbye to boring lectures and hello to a new way of learning! Join us as we explore concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math through interactive experiments and games on Tuesday, June 6th at 5 PM.

For kids ages 6–11.

Nacho Normal Book Club

We don’t have boring book clubs at the library, as we have the Nacho Normal Book Club! The Nacho Normal Book Club will meet in the library board room on Tuesday, June 27th 5–6 PM to discuss The Stationery Shop by Marjan Kamali and enjoy some goodies.

Gaming

Have fun, visit with and make friends, and prove who is the best at the library’s gaming program, running this summer at 2 PM on Fridays from June 9th through July 14th. Ages 6–18 are welcome.
