Updating Fulton County Residents on Court Backlog Progress and Upcoming Elections - April 22, 2022
From: Fulton County Government
April 25, 2022
Friends -
Because we moved the April 6 Board of Commissioners (BOC) meeting to April 13 to accommodate those who were going to be gone for spring break, we had back-to-back BOC meetings on April 13 and April 20. This week, we received a fairly detailed update on Project ORCA, the project to reduce the massive COVID-caused backlog of court cases. I serve as the BOC liaison with our justice partners, a role which includes attending weekly meetings on the project's progress.
This project is so important for so many reasons. Justice delayed is justice denied. Those charged with crimes need to have their cases adjudicated so the convicted can be moved from the county jail, or removed from the streets if currently out on bond, and sent to state prisons. Those who are found innocent, sentenced to time served, or otherwise released, need to get on with their lives. Civil cases need to be resolved so the parties can move on as well. Progress is being made, and our justice partners are working hard to address the backlog. I invite you to view the full report HERE.
Stay safe and well.
