History

A professional theatre with a reputation for excellent ensemble acting, Horizon produces outstanding new plays by today's playwrights that reflect and challenge the lives of the diverse people living in the urban Southeast. Horizon has introduced Atlanta audiences to the works of such well-known contemporary playwrights as Rebecca Gilman, Wendy Wasserstein, David Hare, Terrence McNally, and David Ives, as well as plays by talented emerging writers. In addition to producing its mainstage season, Horizon also develops new plays through workshops, readings, and the annual New South Play Festival, dedicated to producing plays from, for, and about the South. Horizon develops new audiences and artists through the Young Playwrights Festival, Apprentice Company, and Intern Company programs.

Was visiting from out of state and looking for something local to do. Purchased tickets for "Freaky Friday." Horizon Theatre building is not much at all from the outside, quite worn down, and houses a variety of other businesses inside. But don't let that stop you from seeing this absolute gem. I was absolutely floored by the high quality of the acting, singing, and dancing by the large number of performers (who demonstrated amazing endurance and swiftness for wardrobe adjustments). Great live music and sets / set changes. And the opportunity to chat with the truly gracious performers after the show really made the night a triumph. Highly recommended! Support local arts - visual and performing arts! PS - Snacks and drinks are available for sale before and at intermission of performances.

Small theatre doing new and smaller plays often written by little know playwrights. They also do a new play program. Use local and regional talent. Been around for over 30 years in Atlanta. Excellent resource for the city. Only complaint - time for new seats.

Great little venue. No need to worry about where to sit because every seat is a good seat. Concessions are pretty limited as far as snacks go but they do offer wine and other drinks.

It was a small about 250 people searing theater. It was wonderful. Everyone can see a performance well. They had their own band for musical theater. I loved it.
