5 Things to Know in Athens This Week (12/10/18)

The holiday bustle and excitement continues in Athens! We’ve got farm fresh food at holiday markets, concerts, Christmas breakfast with the Grinch, and more. Get in the spirit and gather with the community with these five things to know in Athens this week.

Athens Big City Bread Holiday Market

Big City Bread Cafe is a hometown favorite for farm-fresh fare, but this week gives you an entirely different reason to visit. Their annual holiday market is happening this Thursday and Friday, December 13-14, starting at 5 p.m. each night. The market will feature local makers and artists, making it easy to finish your Christmas shopping in a single stop. Plus, you can grab a delicious dinner at the cafe while you’re there!

Records and Brew at Southern Brewing Company

Southern Brewing Company brings you the best in American craft beers every second Friday of the month. Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, SBC transforms into a hotspot of fellow beer lovers and classic vinyl albums. DJ Osmose is leading the charge with an eclectic mix of Funk, Disco, Soul, Reggae, Classic Hip Hop, and more. Even better, this event has no cover charge and is dog- and kid-friendly.

Breakfast with the Grinch

Anyone can host a Breakfast with Santa experience, but only in Rocksprings Park will you find a chance to dine with the Grinch. This event is one of the most anticipated holiday events each year, offering a delicious breakfast, meet and greet with the Grinch, Whoville-style crafts, and more! You will need to register for the event prior to arrival. Tickets are just $6 for ACC residents and $9 for travelers.

David Archuleta Concert

Platinum-selling pop artist David Archuleta debuted his career on American Idol and skyrocketed to fame. He stunned millions with his chart-topping hit “Crush” and has churned out dozens of hits since. He’ll be performing Saturday, December 15, at the Hugh Hodgson concert hall at UGA, bringing many of his Christmas album songs to the stage. Tickets range from $20-$65. There are also a limited number of VIP experiences available.
