5 Things to Know in Athens This Week (12/31/18)

The new year is alive and well in Athens! Local businesses have wasted no time in starting 2019 on the right foot to give you something to look forward to. Check out what’s happening during the first week of January.

Silent Disco at Highwire Lounge

This rustic chic hangout is a prime spot for weekly trivia and music, especially when it comes to choosing your own rhythms. Their silent disco combines a social atmosphere with the ability to jam out to your choice of music channel. Headphones are just $2 and give you three hours of unlimited tunes to sweep you into the wee hours of the morning. This party starts at 11 p.m. on Saturday, but plan to get there early to enjoy their live jazz band from 7-10 p.m.

Grand Opening Cabaret at the Morton Theater

Athens newest comedy club is breaking through the gates with an epic variety show at the Morton Theater on Saturday, January 5. The Moonlight Theatre Company is a non-profit organization to provide local opportunities for actors, techies, designers, and production hands. Their debut variety show will feature talents from major cities around the southeast and local Athens performers. Tickets are $18 and proceeds will go to benefit the Athens Area Homeless Shelter.

Stardog at Terrapin Beer Company

Rock and roll band Stardogs are stealing the stage at Terrapin Beer Company, combining the best in local brews and music under one roof. This event is free and puts you within arm’s reach of all of the amazing, crafty flavors of beer that has made Terrapin famous. While you’re there, you can take a brewery tour and see where the magic unfolds, and maybe get a few tastings along the way. The party starts Saturday, January 5, at 5 p.m.
